General Initial career as a commissioned Officer in the Royal Navy for 14 years. Responsibility for staff welfare in the Services and a later job as a redundancy counsellor for the Employment Service inspired an interest and subsequent training in counselling. Now working as Director of Crossways Counselling Service. Until recently, Counselling and Bereavement Manager at Macmillan Midhurst and has a private practice as a counsellor and supervisor.

Experience Management Responsible for the training, development and welfare of 200 staff in the Royal Navy in an operational setting. Managed smaller teams when employed by SSAFA and the Employment service. Now working as the Director of a counselling service (a Registered Charity) providing counselling in the local community and employing 10 counsellors and a clinical supervisor. Researched and set up the service in 1999. Counselling and Bereavement Manager for Macmillan Midhurst until May 2022.
Counselling & Supervision Integratively trained and BACP Senior Accredited Therapist with over 25 years’ experience. Works privately as a counsellor and supervisor as well as within the NHS.
Training Has written and also teaches a 10-week introduction to counselling course with a colleague. Trains pastoral listening teams for bereavement visiting and care in the community, and has developed and delivered listening skills workshops for children in local schools. Responsible for providing induction and ongoing training within a counselling agency. Provides CPD workshops on subjects such as: bereavement and loss, working with those who are dying and abuse and trauma.
Communication & Networking Carries out public speaking engagements to raise awareness of, and funds for, Crossways Counselling Service. Organises fundraising events. Founder member of the Forum of Independent Counselling Services. Member of the Forum for Psychological Therapies for Sussex Community Foundation Trust. Deputy Lead for Research within the NHS “Can Talk” study for CBT for those who are terminally ill in conjuction with UCL.
